02:50 - What Else Should You Know?VIDEO TRANSCRIPTWelcome to Grand Hall.Opened in 2017, Grand Hall is home to more than 500 first- and second-year Saint Louis University students. At seven stories tall, it offers single rooms and shared rooms with semi-private bathrooms. In addition to living spaces, Grand Hall includes a chapel, classrooms, a maker space with 3D printers and a business incubator with work stations open to students in learning communities. Every floor has two study rooms and a lounge where students can watch TV and gather for game nights. Kitchens and free laundry facilities are available on alternating floors - kitchens on odd numbered floors and laundry rooms on the even.Grand Hall is also home to a large dining facility with multiple food stations, restaurant-style seating, a fireplace and an outdoor courtyard.Let’s take a look at the available floor plans. The two-person single semi-suite offers the privacy of your own room and a bathroom shared with just one other person.
The four-person double semi-suite has two bedrooms for four people and a spacious shared entry, plus two bathroom areas: one with a toilet and sink and the other with a shower and sink.
ADA-certified single semi-suites and double semi-suites are also available. Each suite has its own thermostat to control the temperature. What's in the room? Each bedroom comes with extra-long twin beds with 9-inch memory foam mattresses, plus desks, desk chairs and dressers as well as closets with an adjustable rod.So what can you do with each space?Move your bed, desk, chair and dresser around into the configuration that suits you best.Dressers can fit in the closets to save floor space. Closets are open but some students opt to partition them off with a curtain hung from a tension rod.Lift your bed a little for storage or a lot to tuck a dresser or appliances underneath. You can loft beds for even more space and in double rooms, beds can also be bunked. Some students in double rooms opt to loft both beds and put a TV and gaming system under one and a futon under the other. Many students work with a University partner to take advantage of rental options that are in the room on move-in day, including loft kits, futons and mini-fridge/microwave units. There is plenty of room to bring a few extras, too. Add a bookcase, hampers, some more storage or seating. Don’t forget lighting, rugs, wall hangings and other things from home that will make your room your own. Blinds come with the room but there is also space in the windows to mount curtains with a tension rod if you’d like.Individual dimensions of rooms will vary based on their configuration so check the floorplans at slu.edu for general measurements. What else should you know?+ Grand Hall offers key card entry to your room. To get into the building and your living space, all you need is your student ID. 24-hour front-desk security is on the first floor.+ In addition to other green measures, Grand Hall was built specifically to take maximum advantage of sun exposure.+ Plus it has outdoor lighting that illuminates the building, and the colors can be changed to celebrate different holidays and celebrations throughout the year.We can’t wait to welcome you to Grand Hall.
