Saint Louis University assistant professor Stephen Ferris, Ph.D., has been named one of eight recipients of the 2026 Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award. First-year recipients receive $400,000 over two years, and will have the opportunity to receive two additional years of funding (for a potential total of $800,000).

The Saint Louis University women's chess team made history on Sunday. In a dominant performance, the women claimed the first-ever women's U.S. Chess Federation's President's Cup title. The Billiken women were a perfect 3-for-3 and claimed the first women's national championship.

Bruce A. Kowert, Ph.D., emeritus professor of chemistry at Saint Louis University, died March 20, 2026. He was 84. Kowert was a longtime professor at SLU.

Trudy Busch-Valentine School of Nursing Professor of Nursing Verna Hendricks-Ferguson, Ph.D., has been named the 2026 National Distinguished Nurse Researcher Award by the National Hospice and Palliative Nursing Association (HPNA).
