Mark A. Varvares, M.D. (Med '86), a nationally recognized leader in otolaryngology and former director of the Saint Louis University Cancer Center, died May 20, 2026.

Johnson is currently the president of the University of New Orleans and previously served as the executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer at IU Indianapolis. As Saint Louis University’s second-ranking officer, Johnson will work closely with SLU’s president to help shape the University’s long-term direction.
