Gary Wayne Barker, professor of theatre and associate dean for administration and undergraduate affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences at Saint Louis University, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026. Even small gifts make a big difference, Saint Louis University President Edward Feser, Ph.D, says."It's sort of like climbing a ladder, and you climb this ladder, and you reach this platform. The platform initially is that you graduated or maybe, years later, it's promotions and so forth.The way I ask students to think about it is to climb to the top of that ladder, and then ask yourself, are you going to be the person who turns around and holds it? Or are you going to go on to the next level?The best reason to turn around and hold the ladder is that somebody held it for you. And I think that's the power of SLU, too. It's about people.
