2018 Alumni Merit Awards: Bruce Wolfe

Bruce Wolfe, M.D., is the recipient of the 2018 Alumni Merit Award for the School of Medicine. Dr. Wolfe is a bariatric surgeon who has devoted his career to surgical nutrition and the treatment of obesity. He has made tremendous contributions over the years as a research scientist in the fields of obesity, comparative effectiveness and clinical research design methodology. Wolfe is a longtime advocate for the surgical care of the treatment of obesity in both California and Oregon, and chairs an NIH-funded research consortium studying the clinical, epidemiological and behavioral outcomes of bariatric surgery, known as the Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery (LABS).The Alumni Merit Awards are presented annually to recognize alumni who exemplify the mission of Saint Louis University and have outstanding success in their professional lives, intellectual pursuits, community involvement and commitment to the university.Saint Louis University (http://www.slu.edu) is a Catholic, Jesuit institution that values academic excellence, life-changing research, compassionate health care, and a strong commitment to faith and service.
