SLU Professors Honored With Excellence in Teaching Awards

Two Saint Louis University faculty have Emerson 2023 Excellence in Teaching Awards. The program, now in its 34th year, is one of the St. Louis region’s most renowned teacher recognition programs.

Margaret Bultas, Ph.D., professor of Nursing, and Kristin Kiddoo, Ph.D., professor of Psychology, were among the nearly 100 other teachers from the St. Louis metropolitan area who are being recognized as examples of educational excellence.
Bultas teaches Growth and Development, Child Health Nursing, Pathophysiology, Essentials of Therapeutic Nursing, and Health Assessment in the Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing.
“I am honored to be recognized as an Emerson Excellence in Teaching recipient and among some of the most extraordinary educators in the St. Louis area,” Bultas said. “I feel fortunate to be able to teach and share my passion and love for nursing with our amazing students who inspire me to always look for new and better ways to teach.”
Bultas has been at SLU since 2011. Her research interests include fostering positive developmental outcomes among high-risk children and their families.
Kiddoo is a long-time member of the SLU community. She received her master’s degree from the University in 2008 and her doctorate in 2009. She began working at SLU in 2007 as a coordinator of Undergraduate Research.
“I tell people regularly that I have the best job in town,” Kiddoo said. “So to be honored with an award for doing that job is very gratifying.”
She started as an assistant professor in 2009, and in June 2023, she became a full professor in psychology.
Emerson honors educators ranging from kindergarten teachers to college professors. The recipients are selected by their educational institution and voted on by peers. Emerson featured honorees’ names in a full-page commemorative advertisement in the Sunday, Nov. 20, edition of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
