OVPR Chief of Staff Selected As One of St. Louis Business Journal's Top 40 Under 40

Jasmin Patel, Associate Vice President for Research and Chief of Staff to the Vice President for Research and Partnerships at St. Louis University, has been named a St. Louis Business Journal 40 Under 40 for 2023.
Patel has been with SLU since 2016. She was selected from a field of more than 350 nominations.

“It’s an honor to be nominated and selected – it was quite a surprise,” Patel said. “It is also a responsibility to continue to work hard to make an impact and to support and mentor others.
The annual list, which will be published in the Nov. 3 issue of the Business Journal, recognizes 40 emerging St. Louis-area business leaders under the age of 40 who are highly engaged with the St. Louis community. Patel and her cohort will be recognized at the 40 Under 40 celebration at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Marriott St. Louis Grand.
Born in Manchester in the United Kingdom, Patel earned her bachelor of science degree in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She then earned her MBA from the University of Chicago.
At Chicago, Patel worked as a Clinical Research Associate, the Executive Director at Arete: A Research Accelerator, and was Chief of Staff for the Research Computing Center.
From there, she joined Saint Louis University first as Assistant Vice President of Research Strategy and Innovation.
“I came to SLU because of the amazing research already happening here and the potential for growth,” Patel said.
In July 2022, she was promoted to Associate Vice President for Research and Chief of Staff.
“In my current role, I oversee the research operations, strategy, and growth components of the Office of the Vice President for Research,” Patel said. “As Chief of Staff, I also oversee the implementation of our five-year plan for research growth.”
Patel said she’s found a home at SLU.
“I really like the ways in which the Jesuit mission can have an impact on everyone here, regardless of your own background or beliefs,” she said. “I think that this creates a community that comes together for each other in times of need, and this is something I have seen time and time again at SLU.”
She said she enjoys working with the OVPR team, which is made up of “an incredible group of individuals.”
