Golf and Give Innovation Challenge Stocks Billiken Bounty's Shelves
The Saint Louis University community helped stock Billiken Bounty's shelves by playing through a mini golf course built out of shelf-stable food items. The event provided nearly $3,000 in food and pantry items for the food pantry.

Fifteen teams signed up to participate in the innovation challenge, led by Saint Louis University’s School of Science and Engineering and the Chaifetz Center for Entrepreneurship in the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business. More than 200 members of the SLU community played the course over Feb. 25-26.
The participating SLU student organizations included:
- AirCRAFT Lab - The AirCRAFT Lab within the School of Science and Engineering builds planes and drones to fly and test.
- American Society of Civil Engineers - The American Society of Civil Engineers at Saint Louis University is a professional organization that is dedicated to promoting community amongst civil engineering students, encouraging professional development amongst St. Louis professionals, and creating an atmosphere that promotes wellness amongst the School of Science and Engineering.
- American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) - ASME student chapter at SLU
- Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) - The Biomedical Engineering Society is a club that helps promote the biomedical engineering field through speaker events with industry partners, tours, and hangouts.
- Chemistry Club - Chemistry enthusiasts who aim to spread our passion for it through a wide variety of on and off campus events! Some of the events include general body meetings, service events to local schools, and panel speaker events!
- Engineers Without Borders - Engineers Without Borders are a non-profit organization that works to improve the world through engineering international projects. The SLU chapter is specifically focusing on improving a water filtration system in Guatemala.
- Entrepreneurship Ambassadors - The Student Entrepreneurship Ambassadors Program engages the entrepreneurship community at SLU through campus-wide programming. Ambassadors serve as the student voice of the Chaifetz Center for Entrepreneurship (CCE) and are advocates for entrepreneurship across campus.
- Flying Billikens Flight Team - The Flying Billikens are SLU's competitive flight team, participating annually in regional competitions against other schools. Events include short field landings, power-off landings, navigation challenges, flight simulator trials, and more!
- Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) - The IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.
- National Society of Black Engineers - This organization is rooted in bringing together the Black engineering community by aiding in network opportunities, building bonds, and helping the students excel academically and professionally.
- Parks Racing FSAE - Each year a team of students designs and builds an open wheel race car to participate in one of seven events which demonstrate capabilities in comprehensive and inter-disciplinary designs. T
- Rocket Propulsion Lab - The SLU Rocket Propulsion Lab focuses on the production of high-powered rockets with the purpose of providing the students with hands-on experiences to build up their skills.
- Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) - SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.
- Society of Women Engineers (SWE) - SWE empowers and supports women in engineering and technology through professional development, outreach initiatives, and academic resources.
- Women in Aviation - The SLU WAI chapter is a professional, co-educational organization that works to encourage those interested in aviation to pursue a hobby or career within any of its different fields.
The teams were challenged to create a mini golf hole that creatively represents their student organization out of the donation items, employing their creativity and innovative thinking skills. Golfers had the chance to vote for their favorite golf hole design.
Parks Racing took home the top prize of $1,000 and the Society of Women Engineers came in second, receiving $500 for their organization.
Located in the Center for Global Citizenship, Billiken Bounty is a safe place where SLU students can choose from a variety of grocery items and healthy foods to help alleviate food insecurity. Billiken Bounty operates using a referral system.
The pantry operates on donations of either shelf-stable items or money. The inaugural Golf and Give in 2024 provided more than $2,600 in food and pantry items.

- AirCRAFT Lab Students at Saint Louis University Build Emergency Response FlyerStudents in Saint Louis University’s Aircraft Computational and Resource Aware Fault Tolerance (AirCRAFT) Lab are building an emergency response flyer to improve disaster response. The innovative aircraft will be able to drop a person and supplies into areas hard hit by natural disasters or other humanitarian crises. A grant from GoAERO, with support from NASA’s University Innovation project, funded the challenge.
- New Sculpture in Pius XII Library Invites Reflection on "Land, Labor, Legacy"Before stepping down as Saint Louis University's president this summer, Fred P. Pestello, Ph.D., and First Lady Fran Pestello, Ph.D., offered a gift to the SLU community. During a reception Monday afternoon in the Pius XII Memorial Library, the Pestellos helped unveil a new sculpture they are donating to the University. The sculpture, titled "Land, Labor, Legacy," was created by Ohio artists Kyle and Kelly Phelps.
- Saint Louis University Community Remembers the Life of Pope FrancisAs the world mourns the passing of Pope Francis, who died on Monday, April 21, at age 88, Saint Louis University faculty, staff and students who encountered the Pope during his papacy remember his life and legacy.
- MOCRA Presents "Meditations" on Art, Abstraction, and SpiritualitySaint Louis University's Museum of Contemporary Religious Art (MOCRA) will hold a program on Saturday, May 3, exploring how the wide-ranging lexicons of spirituality, abstraction and Black cultural production are intertwined.
