Teams of students are building a mini golf course out of shelf-stable food items. The course will be set up in the Wool Ballrooms in Busch Student Center and the SLU community can register to play a round on Feb. 27-28.

The innovation challenge is led by Saint Louis University’s School of Science and Engineering and the Chaifetz Center for Entrepreneurship in the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business.

Located in the Center for Global Citizenship, Billiken Bounty is a safe place where SLU students can choose from a variety of grocery items and healthy foods. The pantry operates on donations of either items or money.

Thirteen student organizations are building golf holes and competing to win “best mini golf hole” during the event. Each team has selected $200 worth of non-perishable pantry items that will be used to construct their hole.

The teams are challenged to create a mini golf hole that creatively represents their student organization out of the donation items, employing their creativity and innovative thinking skills.

As the SLU community comes through to play the course, they will also have the chance to vote for their favorite golf hole design. The winning student organization will receive $1,000 of organization funding.

The organizations will also have an opportunity at the event to share information with the broader SLU community. The participating SLU student organizations include:

  • American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
  • Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)
  • Chaifetz Center for Entrepreneurship
  • Chemistry Club
  • Engineers Without Borders
  • Flying Billikens
  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
  • Project Sunshine
  • Rocket Propulsion Lab
  • Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
  • STEM Wellness
  • Women in Aviation

The course will be open for play from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28. The suggested cost of a round is food or a monetary donation for Billiken Bounty.

Billiken Bounty representatives will also be on site to share information about the vital work they do on campus. Those that don’t wish to play but would like to donate to Billiken Bounty can drop off their donations during the event.
